A FORMER teacher has brought class to New Milton town centre with the opening of a tutoring site.
Kay Fawcett has more than 25 years’ experience in state and private schools, and was head of English at Durlston Court when it made The Times Top 100 for the subject.
After setting up her business from home, she has opened The Fawcett Centre opposite Lidl, providing tuition one-to-one or in small groups of up to five.
She said: “I began tutoring from home and was then detained from any business enterprises by Covid and the consequential lockdowns.
“After building my private work up and then having an exceptionally busy 2022 exam season, I began looking for premises and came across my current unit.
“I couldn’t believe how perfect the location was and set about having three purpose-built classrooms installed.”
She has a full teaching timetable, including home-schooled students, but also employs five teachers for maths and business studies.
Kay is also tutoring a mother and daughter from Ukraine, and is looking to add English as a foreign language to her list of subjects.
During the holidays, the centre offers clubs for 8-11-year-olds, including arts and drama activities.
“We offer a nurturing, safe, encouraging learning environment where younger pupils and older students alike are fully supported and developed on their individual journeys,” Kay added.
“Everyone is different and has different needs – nothing is too much trouble for us.”
